MEDICAL TRANSLATOR
MA in Languages for Communication in International Enterprises and Organisations (LACOM)
Italian and Dutch native speaker | Professional experience since 2013
30,000+ medical documents translated, edited and validated
I am Arianna Andriesse, a specialized medical translator and editor with a Master of Arts in Languages for Communication in International Enterprises and Organisations (LACOM) from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Since 2013, my work has encompassed the translation, editing and validation of more than 30,000 medical documents, including handwritten medical documentation. I collaborate with translation agencies, healthcare providers, insurance companies, physicians and multidisciplinary research teams.
A native speaker of Italian and Dutch, I hold C2 English and C1 French language certifications and work with Italian, Dutch, English and French.
My professional experience is complemented by contributions as a co-author to seven peer-reviewed scientific publications, ongoing studies in Medicine and Surgery on a MedTech dual-degree track, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology currently nearing completion.
I bring together linguistic expertise, familiarity with complex medical documentation and experience in scientific publishing to produce accurate, clear and carefully researched texts.
MEDICAL TRANSLATION, SCIENTIFIC EDITING AND QUALITY CONTROL
My main areas of specialization include medicine, healthcare, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, pharmaceuticals, psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy.
My work covers:
• Clinical records and medical histories
• Handwritten medical documentation, including clinical notes, prescriptions and medical reports
• Diagnostic reports and referral letters
• Surgical notes
• Scientific manuscripts and journal articles
• Scientific reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses
• Case reports and clinical studies
• Clinical trial materials
• Medical insurance documentation
• Medico-legal documentation
• Medical device and equipment instructions, user manuals and catalogues
• Pharmaceutical and healthcare product information
My services include translation, editing, proofreading, linguistic review and quality control, according to the requirements of each assignment.
For clinical documents, I pay particular attention to clinical meaning, specialist terminology, numerical values, units of measurement, abbreviations and consistency. When working with handwritten documentation, I carefully assess legibility and flag any unclear passages for clarification.
For scientific manuscripts, I also focus on academic style, readability and journal requirements while preserving the authors’ intended meaning.

MY APPROACH TO QUALITY
Accurate medical translation depends on careful interpretation of the source text, thorough research and consistent attention to detail.
I consult medical reference works, scientific literature and specialist databases, including PubMed and Embase, to support terminology choices and investigate ambiguities. Ongoing academic study and professional development complement the experience gained through years of translation and editing practice.
My priorities are accuracy, clarity, confidentiality and reliable delivery. I communicate promptly about questions arising from the source material and tailor my work to the purpose, readership and requirements of each project.
