Source text - English D: Feel that breeze. A nice night for sailing, don’t you think?
He shakes his head, eyes dropping to stare down past the dock.
D: C.. listen. We, uh. We really need to talk. We’ve, uh. Needed to talk all day. I guess I was enjoying myself too much to take the plunge.
C: What’s wrong?
D: Lots of thing. Too many to count. Give me a number, and I’ll tell you it’s too low. I’ve done the calculations. Thought of every possibility. Run through the scenario in my head over and over. There’s only one way I can see this whole thing playing out. And it’s not a happy ending, trust me. Isn’t it best to cut things off at the pass? To spare you the trouble of a tragic ending?
He still won’t look at me. If anything, it looks like he wants to run away. I think back to this morning, and waking up with D gone. The empty ache in my chest.
C: You weren’t going to get breakfast this morning, were you?
D: Erhm. Ahem. I, ah- No, I wasn’t. ...I may have panicked. A bit. I would never have just left you, though. Even if I wanted to...I don’t. Want to leave, that is. But I just don’t see how else this can go.

D: Well.. here we are. At your shop. ..End of the line. When I came to Basuvia, I was seeking answers. Finding you.. That was a rare treat. Thank you, my dear. The time we spent together, however brief.. It mattered to me. I won’t forget it.
Translation - Korean D: 이 바람 좀 느껴봐. 항해라도 하기에 참 좋은 밤이네. 그렇지?
그는 고개를 젓더니, 눈을 내리깔며 부두 아래를 응시한다.
D: C… 있지. 우리, 진지한 얘기 좀 해 볼까. 우리 말야. 하… 오늘 내내 대화했어야 하는데. 너무 즐거워서 엄두도 못 냈네.
C: 무슨 문제라도 있어?
D: 문제야 많지. 셀 수도 없어. 아무 숫자나 대 봐, 뭐든 그것보단 많을 테니까.
계산 끝냈어. 모든 가능성을 생각했지. 머릿속으로 끊임없이 상황을 되새겼어. 어떤 상황이건 결말은 하나뿐이야. 그게 행복한 결말은 아닐걸. 모든 걸 끝내는 게 최선이지 않아? 당신에게 비극적인 결말은 안겨주고 싶지 않아.
여전히 그는 나를 바라보지 않는다. 마치 도망치고 싶어 하는 것 같다. 오늘 아침 일이 떠오른다. D가 떠나버린 채로 깨어난 그 아침. 가슴이 텅 비어버린 그리움.
C: 아침 식사 때문에 간 건 아니었지, 안 그래?
D: 흠. 난, 그러니까… 맞아. 아침 때문이 아녔어… 패닉 상태였을지도. 아주… 약간.
하지만 당신을 그냥 두고 갈 순 없었어… 원한다 해도. 난 널 떠나고 싶지 않아. 하지만 다른 결말이 안 보여.

D: 흠, 다 왔다. 당신 가게 앞이야… 우리의 마지막 여정이네.
난 바수비아에서 해답을 찾고자 왔어. 그런데 당신을 찾아내다니… 정말 드문 행운이었지. 고마워, 내 사랑. 우리가 보낸 시간이 덧없이 짧았을지라도… 내겐 큰 의미였어. 영원히 잊지 않을게.

Source text - English D seems to forget me as he starts tearing through the desk in pursuit of something. The papers that he tosses haphazardly aside are meticulous drawings and logs.
D: Ah *ha!* This is it. This is what was calling to me. Don’t ask me how I know, but I *know*. It’s not any of these old scrawlings. It’s this!
He tosses the key in the air, snatching it on the way down and pocketing it with a scheming gleam in his eye. I’m only half surprised when he grasps me by the shoulders and pins me with an adoring grin.
D: I’m one step closer. If it wasn’t for you, dear C, I’d still be two behind.
He sweeps me victoriously into his arms, stopping when his nose is an inch from mine…
Translation - Korean D는 잠시 내 존재를 잊은 듯 책상 위를 뒤지기 시작했다. 그는 정교하게 그린 그림이나 일지를 아무렇게나 내던졌다.
D: 하하! 드디어 찾았다, 이 친구가 날 부르고 있었다고. 묻지 마, 그냥 느낌이 그래. 이런 낡아빠진 것들이 아니고, 바로 이거야!
교활한 눈빛을 반짝이며, 그는 공중에 휙 열쇠를 던지고는 낚아채어 주머니에 집어넣었다. 그가 내 어깨를 붙잡고는 애정이 어린 미소로 날 뚫어져라 쳐다보자, 나는 반쯤 놀라지 않을 수 없었다.
D: 한 발짝 더 가까워졌어. 나의 C, 덕분이야, 당신이 아녔다면 난 여전히 두 걸음은 뒤처졌을 테니까.
그는 승리감에 벅차올라 나를 채가듯 껴안았고, 서로의 코끝이 스치기 직전까지 머물렀다.

그는 사랑이 담긴 손길을 교묘히 피하며, M에게 해맑게 미소 짓는다.
