Risotto is an Italian rice dish, most popular in northern Italy. Traditionally, risotto is the name given to all recipes that use rice as the main component and are served as first dish in a traditional Italian lunch or dinner as usually pasta also is. When rice arrived in Italy six centuries ago from the Far East, it found an ideal place for cultivation in the Po river plain and during the Renaissance and gradually replaced rye, barley and millet for its ease of preparation and nutritious power. Its diffusion across the country gave rise to hundreds of recipes containing components of different local cultures. But the founder of all risotti is the Milan risotto, also called saffron risotto.
Generally the rice is slowly cooked in stock, but other liquids can be used. What's described here is a basic risotto recipe. Grated or ground Parmesan cheese is almost always sprinkled on top. It can be eaten as is, but risotto is generally enjoyed with one or two ingredients added. In Italy, risotto is, like pasta, usually served as first course, the second course being meat or fish.
Ingredients:
400 g (14 oz) risotto rice
1 onion, finely chopped
1 glass dry white wine
25 g (1 oz) butter (a good rich butter is best)
About 1 liter stock/broth (but it's a good idea to have more than you need)

Tradicionalmente, risoto é o nome dado a todas as receitas que utilizam o arroz como componente principal e são servidas como primeiro prato num almoço ou jantar tradicional italiano, como normalmente também é a massa. Quando o arroz chegou à Itália, há seis séculos, vindo do Extremo Oriente, encontrou um local ideal para o cultivo na planície do Rio Pó durante o Renascimento e substituiu gradualmente o centeio, a cevada e o milheto pela sua facilidade de preparação e poder nutritivo. Bem-vindo ao Brasil—Welcome to Brazil! Brazil is by far the largest country in South America, and the fifth largest country in the world. Brazil is located right in the middle of South America, and borders most of the other countries, but it is also very different from them. For instance, while most people in South America speak Spanish, in Brazil people speak Portuguese. Brazil is home to 190 million people, who live in twenty-six states and one Federal District (the capital, Brasília). Because Brazil is so large, it is often broken up into five geographical regions; the North, the Northeast, the Southeast, the South, and the Center-West regions.
The steamy rainforest of the Northern Region
The northern region of Brazil contains the Amazon, the world's largest rainforest. A rainforest is a place with lots of rain, animals, and trees. The rainforest is so big that it stretches into Brazil's neighbors—Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. In fact, the Amazon is so big that if you got all the rainforests in the rest of the world and put them all together it would not be as big as the Amazon. The Amazon Rainforest is named after the Amazon river which is the second longest river in the world.
Because the Amazon is a rainforest, life is very hot and wet. Many thousands of different types of animals and plants are found in the Amazon, as well as 2.5 million different insect species! Because the Amazon is so big, there are still some animals and plants that haven't even been discovered yet.
Unfortunately, the Amazon Rainforest is very quickly shrinking to make way for farmland and cattle. Burning the rainforest is illegal, but difficult for the police to stop because the vastness of the Amazonian region and for the money into the black market that sells wood worldwide... The burning of the forest means that many animals and plants are becoming extinct. Although lots of people are very worried about this it is unlikely that the destruction of the forest will end in the near future.

Como a Amazônia é uma floresta tropical, a vida é muito quente e úmida. Milhares de diferentes tipos de animais e plantas são encontrados na Amazônia, bem como 2,5 milhões de espécies diferentes de insetos! Por ser tão grande, existem na Amazônia animais e plantas que nem foram descobertos ainda.
