For the past 24 years I have taught English in Japan at the university level, where I acquired my knowledge of Japanese language and culture. For translation work, I usually collaborate closely with my wife, who is a native speaker of Japanese with a good knowledge of English, or other Japanese native-speakers with excellent English skills. Our translation and proofreading assignments have included work for city governments (administrative structure, foreign correspondence, public announcements, newsletters, official documents, streets signs, web site), private corporations (company brochures and advertisements, users manuals, letters of recommendation for employees applying to graduate-school programs abroad), museums (exhibition-related materials such as catalogs, artist's resumés, translations of names of artworks), art-related books (ikebana, pottery, paper-making), proofreading of scholarly books and manuscripts for publication and/or presentation, including those relating to the fields of Medieval English, substance identification for food analyses, minimal exercise requirements for cardiac benefit, etc.
As freelance translators with low-overhead,we can offer very competitive prices for accurate translations in most fields except those requiring highly specialized or technical language.
