Source text - English The tectonic movements were caused by the collision between Africa and Europe, which started in the Jurassic with the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. The main tectonic activity was in the Tertiary with a succession of compressive pulses alternating with distensive phases. The distensive phases formed basins with accumulations of continental sediments.
The area of Arzew is located in the north part of a tertiary continental basin, limited by faults with a northeast - southwest direction. The materials that surround this tertiary basin are Mesozoic conglomerates, sandstones, and dolomites.
Translation - French Les mouvements tectoniques ont été causés par la collision Afrique-Europe, qui a commencé durant l’âge Jurassique avec l’ouverture de l’océan atlantique. L’activité tectonique principale a eu lieu pendant l’ère tertiaire avec une succession des impulsions de compression alternées avec les phases distensives. Les phases distensives ont formé des bassins avec l’accumulation des sédiments continentaux.
La région d’Arzew est située à la partie nord du bassin continental tertiaire, limitée par des failles de direction nord-est/ sud-ouest. Les matériaux entourant le bassin tertiaire sont des conglomérats du mésozoïque, des grès, et des dolomies.
