Las familias en el campo constan generalmente de padre, madre y los hijos. La madre es quien se encarga y esta al frente de los asuntos relacionados con los hijos, es quien hace presencia por los hijos en la escuela. El porcentaje de los padres de familia que se involucran en los asuntos de sus hijos es muy bajo.
Se ven casos de abandono de hogar por parte del padre, quien no es obligado por la ley a cumplir con sus obligaciones. Muchos de ellos tienen trabajos inestables, por lo cual se hace imposible seguirles la pista.
También se da el caso de madres solteras, los hijos de estas madres no cuentan con sus padres para nada, la gran mayoría ni lo conocen.
También se da el caso de matrimonios de personas con alguna deficiencia mental o física, como dificultad en el habla, sordas y otras enfermedades. Los niños de estos hogares aunque son normales, al estar en este ambiente, son muy deficientes en la parte educativa por la falta de un ambiente motivador y la falta de comunicación con sus padres.
En la mayoría de familias los padres han tenido muy poca educación o ninguna y viven en ambientes cerrados donde los niños no tienen contacto con el mundo, por lo cual su lenguaje es reducido y sus conocimientos generales también.
Es normal que las familias vivan con los abuelos, no existen ancianatos y muchas personas no tienen seguridad social, entonces las personas cuando envejecen viven con sus hijos y nietos. También es normal que los tíos y tías solteros vivan con ellos. Este ambiente familiar da mucha seguridad emocional a los niños.
Translation - English What is family life like for a child living in the countryside?
The traditional Andean family in Ecuador normally consists of three or four children. The mother is entirely responsible for the children's welfare: the number of fathers involved in the upbringing of their children is very low. Normally only the mother has contact with the children's school.
Cases of children being abandoned by their parents are relatively common - normally it is the father, who is not forced by the law to fulfil his obligations. Many fathers have unstable jobs, meaning that it is difficult for them to be in touch with the financial and social well being of their children. There are also considerable numbers of single mothers, whose children have no paternal support whatsoever and the majority of whom don't even know their fathers.
Many children also have parents with mental or physical impairments such as speech impediments, deafness and other disabilities. Although they have not inherited these from their parents, their education often suffers as a result, because of impaired communication in the family and lack of parental involvement in their schooling.
Frequently the parents themselves have had very little or no education. They live in secluded environments in which the children have little contact with the world. As a result their language ability and general knowledge are severly underdeveloped.
It is normal for grandparents to live with the family, as there are no homes for the elderly. Many people have no social security, which forces them to live with their children and grandchildren in their old age. Single uncles and aunts also often live with relatives. The extended family is therefore an important source of emotional security for children.

Bio
I graduated from Clare College, Cambridge, with a First mark in Translation into and out of Spanish, and worked as an in-house translator for 15 months at the Trade Marks Directory Service in London, translating trademark applications out of Spanish, French and German into English.
I now work as a freelance translator and have collaborated on a large number of projects, working for firms in the fields of process engineering, IT & Telecoms, healthcare, business correspondence, human resources, and many more.
During a career break I spent time working in South America doing website translation and teaching English for Voluntarios de Occidente and a special needs centre, the Centro Ann Sullivan del Peru. In the summer of 2005 I took part in the World Youth Day in Cologne as a translator/interpreter. I also have a year's experience of teaching English at secondary level in Germany.
I am an experienced orchestral musician and studied at the junior department of the Royal Academy of Music.
