Bilingual in French and English Harriet Hirshorn has lived in Turkey, Belgium, England , France, Malaysia and Hong Kong before establishing her home in New York City and, more recently, in Paris. She travels frequently, camera in hand. She has filmed frequently in Haiti and over the past few years in Africa for her current film about the role of women in the struggle against AIDS in Nigeria.
With a BA in Literature from Antioch College and a Master’s in Cinema Studies from New York University Harriet taught documentary filmmaking and introduction to film at Sarah Lawrence College. She is comfortable with all aspects of video production from writing and development to direction, camera and editing.
She also has considerable experience in translating from English to French and French to English for subtitles, voiceovers and published articles.
In addition to producing documentaries and shorts for television and the internet (The International Herald Tribune, iht.com) Harriet Hirshorn has worked for the past 10 years interviewing, shooting, editing and translating video reports for PortiCo Research, a market research company based in New York City which conducts qualitative studies globally.
