When someone asks, "How are you?" many women respond by saying something like, "Great. The kids are great, so's my husband." Well, that's not answering the question. We asked Pamela Peeke, M.D., for advice on making sure you're really okay.
You're fine if:
You know your waist size. The latest research shows that your waistline is a great indicator of overall health. Grab a tape measure and, starting at your belly button, measure around your waist. If it's 35 inches or more, your chance of developing heart disease and diabetes starts to skyrocket. Think this is something only older women have to worry about? Think again—this applies to all women, even teens. Healthy eating and exercise are key to reining in those extra pounds.
