I am a native Finnish- and Estonian-speaker born and raised in Finland, in a bilingual family and close contact with Estonia. I received my primary and secondary education mainly in Finnish. graduated from the University of Helsinki in Finland where I majored in English and French philology and specialized in translation. During my studies under native English- and French-speaking professors, I thoroughly familiarized myself with the English and French languages from a linguistic and cultural point of view, acquiring practical abilities and theoretical knowledge on translation. I also grew accustomed to using translation software such as Trados, Wordfast and Déjà vu and software for audiovisual translation. As a supplement to my translation studies I also improved my language skills by extensive travelling in the United States, Great Britain and France. Travelling and meeting local people allowed me to get to know local cultures and society.
I am currently staying in France where I have achieved a near-native level in French. Even in France, I feel it is essential to keep up with my language skills in English and in my two mother languages, Finnish and Estonian, by extensive everyday reading, writing and speaking. I communicate daily in Finnish, Estonian and English with friends, family members and clients over phone and MSN, I read Finnish, Estonian and English literature and newspapers, listen to online radio in these languages, watch Finnish, Estonian, English and American TV online and also order and watch DVDs subtitled in Finnish and in Estonian.
In addition to my academic studies and travels, translation experience in Finland and in France has allowed me to familiarize myself with the international translation profession. I have on many occasions translated, edited and revised specialized English, French, Finnish and Estonian texts and organized the translation project. These experiences also allowed me to develop my language skills by translating different commercial, tourist, technical, legal, scientific, historical, religious, philosophical and cosmetics texts and taught me a solid work ethic, a great attention to detail and the respect of deadlines.
Today, I translate from French, English and Estonian to Finnish and accept proofreading work from French, English and Finnish to Estonian. I have an experience of three years from English and French to Finnish and an experience of one year from Estonian to Finnish. My translation experience from Estonian to Finnish consists of large volumes of texts particularly in the fields of health, anatomy and alternative medicine. I have an experience of three years of proofreading for each language combination.
