Primarily I have been a technical writer
since 1984. In recent years I write in English more and more. Translation adds only a few percent to my income.
I only translate material that normal translators cannot cope with, e.g. a standard about cable modems or a manual about UNIX performance optimation. Preferably I write a new manual as I normally do, only with a slightly different input.
As a electronics engineer with quite some software experience I prefer IT, electronics, and telecommunication. For more than 10 years I have created complex electronic documents, sometimes using quite abstract methods based on technologies like SGML/XML. Examples: http://www.techwriter.de
Much effort has gone into search engine optimizing of techwriter.de. Google e.g. for "technischer Redakteur" (technical writer in German).
My most intensive connections to the translation community ae my mailing lists. See http://www.tw-h.de/mailinglisten/
