I have been in contact with several languages all my life, starting from an early age, when my mum invited home her German friends to chat for hours. Later, I studied "Senior Year High School" in Oswego, NY, USA and obtained good grades in English literature. There, I had a bunch of international friends and got used to live in this "international environment" where the mixture of cultures and languages was natural and enjoyable.
When I started my PhD in Pharmacy in Barcelona, I decided I wanted to study more seriously German and French, so I took lessons in the university and spent some summers abroad: Berlin, Freibug.
Later on, to finish my PhD in Pharmacy I did an internship in the University Medical Center in Geneva (French part of Switzerland), where I communicated with my scientific colleagues mainly in English and French. I spent in Geneva 4 years as a postdoctoral fellow and there I assimilated French as a third foreign language.
After a sabbatical trip through Asia, I lived for one year in Zürich, Switzerland, and there I found an opportunity to start professional translation for two medical communication agencies, which I combined with a job as a pharmacist and later on as Drug Safety Associate for Novartis.
Until now, I have published 14 scientific articles in English in peer-reviewed journals, in the field of diabetes and metabolism, and I am collaborating as a reviewer for the journal Life Sciences (Elsevier). This year, when I came back to Barcelona and started working as researcher in a Neuropharmacology department I decided that I wanted to keep my translating career alive, so I am training daily my language and translating skills, learning to use CAT-tools such as Déjà-Vu and Trados and freelancing for agencies specialized in medical and pharmaceutical communication.
