I am a native Cantonese speaker, with the knowledge of Mandarin and English. I am currently looking for freelance translation and proofreading opportunities.
I graduated in May 2006 with my Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Cross-Cultural Marketing Communication and am certified in localization by the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) and CSUC. I was born in Hong Kong with valid dual citizenship in Chinese and British, and am fluent in English, Cantonese (native language), and Mandarin.
For the past year I have been working in Wordbank, one of the successful localization companies in London, England. My position in the company was a project manager, and my duty was to manage small teams of suppliers, i.e. translators, editors, proofreaders, IT technicians etc., to ensure the quality and timely delivery of translated materials. I also performed internal translation, proofreading and Q&A for Simplified and Traditional Chinese documents within Wordbank.
My knowledge background is mostly focused on cross-cultural issues in businesses and organizations. Throughout my college career, I am well-trained in quantitative and qualitative research methods in both communication and marketing researches. I also have the knowledge in cultural and applied anthropology, as well as organizational and intercultural communication, especially in cross-cultural issues. My degree includes multiple disciplines: marketing, communication studies, and anthropology, which provides me a wider and more applicable vision of the newly globalized world. Besides, I am energetic, highly motivated and have great interpersonal skills, which make me a great participant in teamwork.
My expertise areas are Marketing, Travel and Communication. I have been working with clients such as HP, Toyota, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, as well as XanGo and Dutsche Bank. I can translate from English to Traditional and Simplified Chinese and vice versa, and I would like to have a rate of USD$15 per hour, or USD$100 per 1,000 words, but I am willing to negotiate the rates. My hours could be flexible, and am available for urgent projects.
