I was born and raised in Southern California. I am Cuban and have spoken spanish all my life. I support bilingual (and multilingual) services. I support immigration causes such as the fight for millions upon millions of undocumented workers and residents to be acknowledged for their contributions and struggles in this country. They must stop being villified for the simple act of crossing a geographical border illegally. That, in and of itself, does not constitute criminal behaviour in the true spirit of the term. It's really easy to hang on to a technicality to avoid addressing the issue at hand, and to continue making excuses for arrogance, entitlement, and bigotry. I believe that knowing more languages makes you more marketable as well as expands your horizons as an individual. It makes you look at life from more than just one perspective, and puts you in contact with people from other cultures to open up your mind. |
