In the fall of 2006 I did a consecutive Polish-English translation of an interview with Dr. Patrick Vaughan of Jagiellonian University for Polish Radio Lwow, concerning Dr. Vaughan's upcoming biography of Zbigniew Brzezinski
, to be published in America by New York Times and in Poland by Swiat Ksiazki. I have also assisted Dr. Vaughan in numerous translation and interpretation situations, for example interpreting during interviews with General Wojciech Jaruzelski
and former Communist party General Secretary Stanislaw Kania
Other translation experience includes written work done on company-related material in my previous position as a Sales Manager, hobby translating, as well as proofreading MA projects.
I have lived in Krakow for nearly six years and am currently teaching business English as well as standard courses in three private schools here in the city. I am an American-born native speaker of English. I possess both American and Polish citizenship.
Previously I worked as a Sales Manager for an established American publisher for approximately three years. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a BA in two fields of study--Economics and English Literature.
I am an avid reader of the Polish press. I stay aware of political and economics-related topics concerning both Poland and the international realm. I have studied Polish since 1998, first at the university level and then on private courses. In May of 2007 I passed the second level of the National Polish Exam (Panstwowy Egzamin z jezyka Polskiego jako Obcego), receiving 'good' marks. I intend to pass the third level in the spring of 2008.
I am currently working on a book project of my own, on the Amish people of North America, specifically concerning their business practices. Projected publication date is mid- to late 2008. My Amish-related web log can be found at amishamerica.typepad.com
