Source text - English How Do You Properly Use Sunscreen?
Protecting your skin from the sun’s damaging rays is one of the most important actions you can take to prevent skin damage. Excessive sun can cause skin disease like melanoma and actinic keratosis, and sun’s damaging UV-A rays penetrate deep into skin’s dermis where the collagen and elastin fibers are produced causing defects in these important proteins. It is these fibers that are responsible for maintaining firm and wrinkle free skin. Daily use of a sunscreen containing complete protection from the UV-B and UV-A rays of the sun is paramount in maintaining healthy skin. This is called broad-spectrum protection. Once you’ve chosen the proper sunscreen product, product application then becomes critical. Most consumers don’t apply enough sunscreen in one application and don’t apply sunscreen often enough when exposed to the sun. Re-application of liberal amounts of sunscreen every 20-30 minutes is recommended when you’re continuously exposed to the sun. Even during normal day-to-day activity where minimal exposure to sun’s rays are experienced, a daily moisturizer of SPF 15 is recommended.

Source text - English People with dementia, a condition in which memory, learning, and behavior are compromised, have elevated levels of phospholipid hydroperoxides (PLOOH), free radical compounds that accumulate abnormally in the red blood cells (erythrocytes). Kiyotaka Nakagawa, from Tohoku University (Japan), and colleagues enrolled 30 healthy men and women, ages 50 and 69 years, in a twelve-week long study during which each subject received either a daily dietary supplement of 6 milligrams astaxanthin – an antioxidant compound derived from algae, a daily supplement of 12 milligrams astaxanthin, or placebo (zero astaxanthin). Subjects who consumed either astaxanthin supplement demonstrated markedly lower levels of PLOOH with reductions in the order of about 40 and 50% in the 6 and 12 mg groups, respectively, compared with no significant change in the placebo group. The researchers conclude that: “These results suggest that astaxanthin supplementation results in improved antioxidant status and decreased [phospholipid hydroperoxide] levels, which may contribute to the prevention of dementia.”
