Source text - German Die Internetfirma Letsbuyit steckt in einer finanziellen Schräglage. Die Aktien sind am Freitagmorgen bis auf weiteres vom Handel am Neuen Markt ausgesetzt worden.
Wie die Deutsche Börse am Freitag mitteilte, geschah dies auf Antrag von der Firma selber. Am Vorabend hatte der Internethändler in einer Veröffentlichung mitgeteilt, dass er einen Antrag auf Durchführung eines “vorläufigen Moratoriums“ stellen wolle. Allgemein wird unter Moratorium ein Zahlungsaufschub verstanden. Was dies im Detail bedeutet, ging nicht aus der Mitteilung hervor. Für eine Stellungnahme war bei dem Unternehmen niemand zu erreichen.
Die Internet-Einkaufsgemeinschaft hatte im dritten Quartal einen Verlust von 25,8 Mio. Euro gemacht. Der Umsatz sei dabei um 28 Prozent gestiegen, teilte das Unternehmen Mitte November mit. Für das vierte Quartal hatte Geschäftsführer Martin Coles ein starkes Wachstum in Aussicht gestellt, denn mit einer TV-Werbekampagne wollte das Unternehmen vom Weihnachtsgeschäft profitieren. Ein Berater von Letsbuyit sagte, die Gesellschaft habe sich entschlossen, Zahlungen einzustellen, während sie über ihre weiteres Vorgehen entscheide. Das Unternehmen verfüge über rund 18 Mio. Euro an liquiden Mitteln, aber es wolle nicht warten, bis es über keine Mittel mehr verfüge.
Letsbuyit war einer der Pioniere des so genannten Powershoppings. Dabei können sich mehrere Käufer zusammenschließen, um den Preis eines Produktes zu drücken. Das Geschäftsmodell war aber in Deutschland auf rechtliche Hindernisse gestoßen, und Grund dafür war das alte Rabattgesetz. In mehreren Gerichtsentscheidungen war dem Unternehmen ganz oder teilweise untersagt worden, den Preis seiner Waren nach dem Kriterium zu staffeln, wie viele Kunden das jeweilige Produkt bestellen. Zwar wird dieses Gesetz nun voraussichtlich abgeschafft, aber wohl zu spät: diese schwierige Phase ist kaum zu überbrücken.
Translation - English The Internet company “Letsbuyit” lies on a financial knife’s edge. On Friday morning its shares on the Neuer Markt were suspended until further notice.
As the German Stock Exchange imparted on Friday, this happened at the request of the firm itself. On the evening beforehand, the Internet trader had stated in a public announcement that it wanted to launch an application to effect a “temporary Moratorium”. By “Moratorium” a deferral of payment is understood. What this means in detail was not made evident in the communication. No-one in the business was available for comment.
In the third quarter, the Internet buying co-operative had made a loss of 25.8 million euro. In mid-November, the enterprise disclosed that turnover had risen by 28 percent. Business Director Martin Coles promised marked growth for the fourth quarter, as the enterprise looked to profit from Christmas commerce with a TV advertisement campaign. A consultant from Letsbuyit reported that the company has decided to cease trading while it considers its future dealings. He said the company has about 18 million euro in cash and cash equivalents, but does not want to wait until it runs out of funds.
Letsbuyit was one of the pioneers of so-called “power shopping”, where a number of buyers could join together to lower the price of a product. However, the business model in Germany was halted by legal problems; due to the long-established Rebates Act. In several court decisions, the company had been prohibited in whole or in part from staggering the price of its goods according to the criterion of how many customers order the respective product. This law will likely now be abolished, but truth be told, all too late: this difficult phase is hard to bear.
