Graduated with MA (Honours) in Philosophy at the University of Glasgow and subsequently qualified as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I spent two years teaching and accumulating experience in international language schools in Scotland before moving to Brazil in 2005.
I speak fluent Portuguese and have a deep understanding of the fundamental differences between the two languages.
I continue to give private classes, not only because I enjoy doing so, but also because I believe it is crucial to maintain as broad a perspective of Brazilian life as possible through contact with diverse people who can share experience across a range of work and personal interests.
This breadth of interest is what I believe makes me a good translator.
I have worked alongside psychoanalysts, scientists, architects, business professionals, engineers, artists, musicians, historians, surgeons, students – even teenagers!
My translations result in a form of English which is both readable and engaging and which always remains faithful to the meaning expressed in the original.
