Although I am an industrial/organizational psychologist by education, I spend a great deal of my time on web developing and Dutch grammar. With my interest in teaching and linguistics, it was only natural that I founded a website about Dutch grammar in 2003. I wrote an extensive Dutch grammar reference, which is currently the only non-official internet resource that the official Dutch Language Authority refers to on http://taalunieversum.org/koppelingen/66. I am still engaged in content editing as I am adding and updating content all the time.
Next to content editing, I have also become engaged in content management as I implemented a content management system for translators to enable them to edit pages directly on the website.
While developing my website, I became rather proficient in writing in html, php, and MySQL. Next to the technical part of being a webmaster, I thoroughly enjoy writing clear instructions and explanations.
As a psychologist, I have worked with unemployed immigrants in many different projects. I have taught Dutch and I have experience in developing Dutch educational material for immigrants, which requires good writing skills.
In Belgium, I took a course in 'Klare Taal' ('clear communication'), where I learned how to deliver a complicated message in a clear and understandable way. On a different level, I have written applications for government funding in a rather competitive sector.
After I gave up my job as a psychologist (when moving back to the Netherlands in May this year), I have been working on short projects. In June/July, I worked as a content editor for Vodafone (HQ Maastricht) and I have done several translating jobs for commercial websites (English -> Dutch) about wellness, consumer electronics, telecommunication, engineering software, and business software.
I am currently looking for assignments as a Dutch proofreader, translator (English or German to Dutch), or copywriter. My services could come in particularly handy when you need someone to work directly inside the code (html, php) of your website. It goes without saying that I am able to work with any content management system.
