English to Japanese: Institutional Discrimination： 制度化された差別
Source text - English Three issues are dealt with regarding institutional discrimination. The first item notes that women enter the labor market at different and lower paying levels than do men. Historically, men were doctors while women were nurses; men taught in college while women taught in primary schools; men worked construction while women were secretaries; men worked in the automobile and steel industries while women worked in apparels and textiles. In each of the above comparisons men are employed in sectors that pay higher wages and than women in the respective sectors.
Translation - Japanese 制度化された差別に関わる論点は三つある。一つ目に挙げられるのは、労働市場での女性の賃金が男性のそれに比べ低い事である。歴史的に、男性が医師であるに対し、女性は看護婦であった。男性が大学で教鞭をとる間、女性は小学校で教えた。男性が建設業に就き、女性は秘書に就いた。男性が自動車産業及び鉄鋼業で働く間、女性は衣服及び織物業で働いた。上記の各比較において、男性が女性よりも高収入の領域で雇用されている。
English to Japanese: Circus Insectus: 虫サーカス団
Source text - English 1. There was a small tent of leaves with a sign reading “Circus Insectus”. Living above the tent was Nicholas the Spider. To keep dry on rainy days, Nick hid between the leaves of the Circus Insectus tent. Nick loved Circus Insectus; however, all the circus insects teased him and called him “No-Trick Nick” because Nick was always sitting in his spider web, doing no tricks.
Translation - Japanese あるところに、「虫サーカス団」のふだがついた、はっぱのテントがありました。テントの上にすむのはクモのニコラス。雨の日のニックは、ぬれないようにテントのはっぱの間にかくれます。ニックはサーカス団の虫たちが大好きでした。でも、サーカス団の虫たちはニックを「芸なしニック」とよび、からかいました。なぜなら、ニックはいつもテントの上にすわり、芸ひとつしたことなどなかったからです。
