What a fun day! Everything was going just fine until Andrew drove himself, Colin, and the MG off a cliff. Luckily for them they were wearing parachutes and safely landed a mind-boggling 1000 meters further down on a lower mountain road. Boy did we have fun talking about that one at our picnic lunch.
My favorite though was the drag racing at dusk. It was Attila in the suncar pitted against Gino in the alpha; the smell of burnt rubber and sweaty palms on pleather... you really should have been there. Pictures will be made available shortly.

n get dropped off in Nice for those who want to take the train to Juan-les Pins Sunday morning (riquier to juan les pins train leaves at 8:28 and arrives at 9:09 or nice centre ville {central station} leaves at 9:00 and arrives at JLP at 9:30).

I just received a message from Francis. He would prefer that we meet at the Juan-les-Pins train station instead of Riquier in Nice. Francis has a group on Saturday and all of the cars will be there (logistics easier for them). Please call me to confirm that you got this message +33 6 78 52 41 76.

This is going to work out better as we won't have to drive the convertibles on the highway to get to the circuit starting point.

Thanks John. I am looking into the train option now which I think might be doable. I am also trying to see if I can change my ticket to leave directly from Nice Monday morning so I don't have to get back to Aix for Sunday night. This of course would mean I would be staying two nights in Nice. I know you mentioned something about negotiating a group rate at a couple of hotels.. can you send me the link? The four star may be a bit out of my league but a two or three star would be great... thanks!

You know what they say, Diane, there is always room for one more!
I think the only problem we are going to run into would be with the transport issue from Aix to Nice. I don't have any more room in my car and the other car coming from Aix is full as well. I have three solutions:
1. Check out train and bus schedules to see if you can't get to Nice and back that way. We are going to be dropping Attila off at the Cannes train station around 4 pm on Sunday so we could drop you off as well.
2. Rent a car, take one of the 5 in my car and have him/her chip in for gas/highway tolls.
2. Try and convince someone at the conference to come to Nice for the Roadshow, preferably someone with a car!
I hope you'll be able to make. Let me know what you decide to do...

Hi John,

I know it's a bit late in the game but I am wondering if there is still room in any of the cars? The only problem is I would have to find a way back to Aix on Sunday night to catch my train very early the next morning to Paris. Do you know what time the last train/bus leaves from Nice? Also, I would need to hitch a ride with someone to Nice on the Saturday night... Sorry to complicate things at this late stage. I fully understand if it's not doable. thanks, Diane

Sorry Marie,

I wrote Sunday in my last message and I meant Saturday (I edited the post). I was talking about the drive to Nice after the conference ends Saturday night.
For the Roadshow, we'll meet at the train station Sunday morning (if you take the train or bus, we'll drop you off at your hotel after the Roadshow). Then we go off on our tour all day. We'll get back to Nice around 17:30. We'll park the roadshow cars and drop people off at their respective hotels so they can get some beauty rest for Monday's training!
I hope this is clear. If anyone has any questions, feel free to call during the week 06 78 52 41 76 or be sure to ask me at the conference.

I think I haven't quite understood how this is working. For the pow-wow we all meet at the Gare Riquier Nice for 9:30 (Shouldn't be a problem as we will be arriving Sat. evening. What I don't get is the bit from Aix to Nice (we leave the road show cars in Aix? How do we get our cars there?) and if we have room in my car (it's just me and Gino - so there would be another two or three seats, depending on how cramped people are willing to be). For us the picnic is fine. You can explain the itinerary in detail for me at [email removed]

Hi everyone,

Here's the skinny, Francis confirmed for the time and pick-up: Gare Riquier train station in Nice at 9:30 am. Please be on time so we don't get held up!
There has been one tiny modification: the itinerary we've chosen is a little more expensive (restaurant and distance) so in order to keep the price the same (€79), we are going to have a "three-course luxury catered picnic" with wine, dessert, and coffee instead of a restaurant.
I'm really sorry to inform everyone at the last minute, but I just found out this weekend. Francis assured me that it is an excellent picnic that is just as good as a restaurant.

I can't remember whether I've told you this already, but, in case I haven't, I just thought
I'd confirm - I'd rather not actually drive if at all possible. I've never
driven a left-hand drive car, and I suspect driving a vintage model isn't
the time to start!

No special requests. I don't know the area very well, having only passed through on the motorway a few times! No idea of the distances or driving time involved in doing everything you suggest, so we'll leave it to you to conjure up a heady mixture of breathtaking scenery and the odd visit or two to some unspoilt places! Gordon does sound appealing as one of the "plus beaux villages de France".

Great, so far it looks like there will be at least five of us. Now, is there anything in particular you'd like to see? We could do the circuit we've done before which is rather breathtaking (between Nice and Menton, sea and mountains) or head across the Var, up into the mountains, stop by a local candy-making factory in Pont du Loup, art galleries in St Paul de Vence, la fondation Maeght, Gordon ( [url removed] ), ceramics museum in Valbonne, glass factory/museum in Biot ( [url removed] )...

What do you think?

Regarding the Drivers' licence, I know that it's not valid in France. I've already stayed in France for some time... and last time it was not valid.

Hi Ritu,
Since you're going to be at the conference, it would be a good idea to bring this up now...
I'm going to be driving back to Nice from Aix on Saturday night after the conference. I have room for three people to head back to Nice with me. You won't have enough time to leave Aix on Sunday morning (2-hour drive, 3 to 4 by train). So you should plan on staying in Nice on Saturday night. I have a special room rate negotiated at a 3-star and 4-star hotel in the city center, right next to the soon to be completed tram, and may negotiate another rate with a 2 star.
So let me know if you want to come back with me to Nice or if anyone else is planning to make the drive on Saturday night from Aix, if they have room to spare in their vehicle. Save the planet--carpool!
