I have gotten so many clients through Proz that I turn job offers down each week. Also, I prefer to work with a limited number of really big clients: that way I know that work runs smooth and that I will get paid. I think that more clients would lead to more stress as I am already fully booked most of the time.

Will definitely get round to it some day. Not to tout my already over-stretched services though, mainly just for a laugh and to make me feel "down with the kids"...

Had one and got rid of it. I don't have time for extra customers anyway, so why bother.

re a cheapish way to overhaul my current site/design a new one? The quotes I've been getting have been OTT and I'm not at all impressed by a couple of design proposals I've had. Beginning to think I "could do worse" myself!

A website for me needs to be a kind of well-dressed shopfront.

Had a website professionally designed and used it for a few years to try and grow client base. Didn't really see that much difference so I closed it. Get just as much business with directory/profile page.

An ex-boyfriend did one for me, but I can't contact him to take it down. It's awful and outdated. I will eventually have one build, because I know nothing about these things nor how much they cost.

No, and I have no intention of getting one any time soon - I'm already working flat out and often have to turn work down, plus all the information I would want to put on a website is already shown in my Proz.com profile.

Each year, I get more and more clients through my website. Not only clients from abroad but also from Peru. When I ask some people how they reached me, the answers I get sound like:

- Via your website
- I googled and your name/website appear at one of the first positions
- Saw you in Proz, checked your website and liked it very much. That told me you were professional
- You don't how difficult is it to find an interpreter in Peru!

It's not essential to have a website but it's important as a kind of "business card".

Although it is, thus far, only in English. German and Spanish will follow shortly. :D

As Esther stated, it is the perfect business in a global working environment, be it as a translator and editor or as a writer.

A link to my ProZ profile will be installed shortly. :)

While most of my new clients come through ProZ (mainly people looking for Portuguese-English, for which there appears to be a growing demand), my biggest and best new client "bumped into" my website last year while surfing the Internet.

Post title: It's my digital business card

To me, my website is like a digital business card. I work as a writer, editor and translator, so I figured the least I could do was write good texts on my website to show people my skills. If I need a haircut, I also find it a bit weird to have a bold hairdresser!

The other reason I prefer a website over printed business cards is that since I became a Proz.com member, I work all over the world. 90% of what I do is online anyway. A website is a great way of providing instant information and giving customers a taste of my work, as are other social media profiles.

Now all there's left to do is translate my site into different languages, which is something that's high on the list but that I haven't come around to doing yet!

Edit: I've worked hard on translating it today and my site is now also available in English :-)
