Hi there!

I learned typing in the electronic warfare school, using mechanical typewriters for a good reason (electricity was very precious out there in the field). Mechanical solutions are just as disturbingly loud.

I prefer high-end rubber dome keyboards with extra buttons to teach keystroke sequences or to assign homebuilt macros. Such a device costs almost the price of low-end mech keyboards, comes with advanced (not loud) mechanism.

Removable keycaps may bring some advantage but I know where to find my screwdriver and clean the inside as well. I never spill drinks, and take care of my things. One quality peace costs just double but can be preserved times longer.

Otherwise this entire reply has been dictated, as such services are readily available in all systems. Not to mention that considerable (!) portions of my job consists of reading and thinking, rather than typing.

I keep my keyboard clean. Can't work with a dirty keyboard.

I use a Durgod TKL mechanical keyboard with different sets of keycap so that I can keep using the keyboard while cleaning the dirty keycaps. Mechanical keyboard allows you to pull out all keys so that mean you can use a brush or a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly take away all those dirts, hair, breadcrumbs that have accumulated over the years. LOL.

Once you tried your hand on a mechanical keyboard with brown switch you'll never want any other keyboards.

Maybe this is off-topic, but it's important. Like Mario, I would never have anything but a mechanical keyboard. In the past, I've tried to save money on cheaper ones and ended up getting rid of them. Three big disadvantages of chiclet keyboards: (1) they require considerably more effort to push the keys, which slows down the typing task; (2) the mechanical action itself is slower; and (3) the caps are flat across the top, which makes it easier for fingers to slip toward neighboring keys. With a mechanical keyboard, typing goes much faster and the cap tops have slight indentations that cradle the fingertips. If you don't already use one, making the switch will greatly improve your efficiency and your fingers will thank you.

I thankfully decided not to make economy with keyboards anymore and buy a mechanical one. So I can clean it regularly. I disassembled it and cleaned it completely for the last time less than a month ago, so it's only a bit dirty because I smoke and the ashes always fall in between the keys. But I also blow it regularly. But one thing is sure, though: I'll never ever have a non-mechanical keyboard again in my life.

I hate dirty keyboard(s). I have
three keyboards with three different layouts. The Croatian QUERTZ, the French AZERTY and the standard English QUERTY. I clean them on a regular basis but with the Corona situation, I wash my hands much more often ,so the keyboards are in pristine conditon lately. Even cleaner that they use to be.😊

No time to gather dust if it is being used (and the laptop lid is closed when the computer is not in use). Chiclet keyboard keys, so easy to clean externally once in a while/when visibly requiring a sweep.

Mine is a wired Apple Extended Italian Keyboard (rather difficult to find these days) protected by a translucent keyboard cover that fits as tightly as a glove and is easy to wipe when the necessity arises.

I have programmed the seven small F keys along the top right to instantly launch the applications I use most frequently (email, Firefox, BusyCal, Spotify, etc.) without needing to go looking for them or clicking on them. One touch of the key and they open! I use this [url removed]

The one I'm on just now, my main PC, is not too bad, because I turned the keyboard upside down and gave it a tap the other day and a lot of dust and stuff fell out. However, on the backup computer, which I was using yesterday because it's the one I use for working on Excel files, is pretty filthy and I really must give it a clean. Yesterday's job was mostly clicking or dictating, so I wasn't paying much attention to the keyboard, but every time I did, I thought that I must get this cleaned ASAP. Might have a go at it later on...
