Forum: Translation Article Knowledgebase
Topic: Article: 12 Easy Rules of preparing documents for translation
Poster: Timothy Barton
Post title: A few comments

RTF is indeed the best format, since it is a standard format. It is NOT a word format! It should be placed on a higher level in the hierarchy than .doc, since it can be opened by more programs.

You make no mention of using OCR programs for "graphic" pdfs and faxes.

I don't see why one should be obliged to use WinZip. This software must be paid for (yes, it is not free software, as many people believe), whereas if, for example, you choose IZArc, you don't have to pay anything, and it makes no difference to the customer as you can produce the same .zip format as with WinZip, as well as the .rar format (which is probably not a good one to use since many e-mail servers seem to reject it).
