Mihaela told me how to put pictures here, but it didn't work, because I used Google's Picasa, where I couldn't find the box "HTML Tag".
With Photobucket ( ) it's a piece of cake:

Thanks Mihaela!

What I want to say as well: Picasa ( ) still is great free software to manage, edit and upload your photo's.

but with a bit of luck, if you search with google.com/images whale tail, maybe you get to find the same image again! ;)i tried and loads of images were shown!

Dear Heinrich

I have also a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, which came with that beautiful whale tail as wallpaper. Unfortunately, a technician erased it when he was working in my machine and now I am trying to get it back. Do you think you can help me, please, to upload it again?

So true Viktoria, I m so much in love with close-ups too! before the wallpaper i have now, i used to have a close up of a flower, after the snow, with small drops of melted ice sliding down the petals, and its bright color was such a warming sensation when you looked at it. It was like when you are outside in the cold and you see a warm fireplace insede a house..you feel somewhat recovered..

I tried to take close up pictures myself but..not too much came out of it..

Right now, I have a closeup picture of a green leaf with a few drops on it, but it is a macro picture, so you can see the slightest details. I also like flowers, for the same reason - if you stop and take a close look, you'll discover the beauty you keep walking by without noticing. A bit like the National Geographic idea, I guess...

If not, I use pictures I or my boyfriend took on vacation (I have some nice recent ones from Eastern Europe - I'm getting better at it!).

Thank you, María! :-)

My class is at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. It really is a lot of fun because you get to take the tales you grew up with as a child and really look at them from a different angle. It's amazing some of the meaning and symbolism in these stories and how they reflect the culture and time period in which they were written. And it's fun to have a class where the homework is all reading fairy tales and watching movies. :-)

Right now, I'm working on my Master's degree and I'm taking a class on European Folktales and Fairy Tales, so that's been on my mind quite a bit. I had an illustration of Beauty and the Beast (the topic of my research paper).

But yesterday, I switched to another illustrations, from the tale Six Swans.

Other than that, I usually have photos of scenery (places I have been, they're nice reminders of past vacations) or of animals (something to make me smile).

I have ]a picture of the Earth viewed from space at night as my desktop background (edited slightly to better fit my desktop color scheme and aspect ratio).

A real picture to muse at, I think - all those little dots represent places where people live.

P.S.: Also, the colors go together with my eye-friendly dark color scheme quite nicely. Those TFT screens are just blinding with a bright color scheme.

My wallpaper changes every half hour. I use a little proggie called 'Wallpaper Master', which changes the wallpaper in set intervals. You can choose to have it change when you startup, every xx minutes or whatever. Many other options to choose from, really cool.
In my case, I have it pick pictures at random from a folder which contains fine art paintings (Rembrandt, Monet, Goya, Mondriaan, Dali, Ticiano etc.). Every half hour a oooh-how-beautiful-moment!

A picture taken by me in Mülheim an der Ruhr which shows a family of ducks resting on the riverside. Somehow, I managed to catch a wonderful light that afternoon.

I've had it for almost 2 years now - I used to have photos of the LOTR characters, especially lovely Gollum (yes, I'm a LOTR geek!).
