Hello,

I'm using MemoQ 2015 for the first time for a proofreading job for a new client.
To my knowledge, I didn't receive any guidelines for proofreading.

- Is there a proofreading mode in memoQ that shows all the changes I made?
- Some strings are highlighted in grey and I cannot unlock them, which means I can't correct them. Any ideas on that?

I'm a bit stuck at the moment, if someone could help me, that would be very nice.

The grey segments should have been blocked by the client, meaning you don't need to do anything about them. As for your role, you can easily check by confirming a segment. If the mark for that segment changes to a tick with a plus, or a double tick, then your role has already been set to reviewer 1 or reviewer 2, respectively. Otherwise, you can change your role under "project home > Settings > Confirm using status".

Thanks for your help.
At the end of each string, I see a green tick but no tick with a plus nor double tick.

"project home > Settings > Confirm using status"

I'm in the settings, there are different tabs aligned vertically (General, Segmentations Rules, QS Settings, etc.). I can't find the "Confirm using status" option. Can you please explain where it is exactly?

Many thanks for your help

Ben

And that doesn't change even if you confirm the segment?

Thanks for the help.

Now I understand how to confirm a segment!

So if a segment is highlighted in grey, that means I can update it even if there are errors in it? I tried double-clicking on the lock, but nothing happens.

Many thanks!

Ben

If it's in grey, and you're working on the client's server, it usually means the person who prepared the file locked those segments, so you actually don't have to (and can't) do anything about them (and they should be outside the scope of the project and word-count).

You should only work on the remaining segments (that you can edit and confirm).

P.S. Obviously, if you think the greyed out segments contain errors as well, you could mention that to your client...

filter "unlocked segments and only work on them May 29, 2016

The first thing I do before start proofreading is to filter "unlocked segments and only work on them and I have nothing to do with the "locked/greyed' segments.

However (IMO), there's a disadvantage to that, in that the locked segments might still provide context for the unlocked ones (and also help to adjust style, terminology and syntax). Additionally, in some specific cases, not seeing the previous segment might actually become an issue in some languages (e.g. the previous segment ends with a colon).

Yes, you can see changes Jun 2, 2016

Hi Benjamin,

Yes, you can see your changes quite easily. MemoQ supports this well via the version history.

Here's how to do it:

- Make sure you use "Import with options..." option when importing the source document. In the dialogue box you need to check the "Record version history" option.

- Once you've reached a certain point in your changes, for me this is usually after my first pass through the file, go to "Project home" and select "Translat

- Make sure you use "Import with options..." option when importing the source document. In the dialogue box you need to check the "Record version history" option.

- Once you've reached a certain point in your changes, for me this is usually after my first pass through the file, go to "Project home" and select "Translations" in the sidebar.

- On the list of translations, choose the file you've edited and right click. From the context menu select "Create snapshot" and if you like, type in a comment (I find this very useful). Click OK

- Right click again on the file and choose the "History/Reports" option. Now select the two versions you want to compare by left clicking one of them, then hold down the CTRL key and left click the second version. The hyperlinks at the bottom will now be available.

- Click the hyperlink for your preferred compare method, either "Export difference as a tracked changes Word file" (useful for sharing with your client) or "View differences using tracked changes" (this shows your changes directly in the MemoQ translation editor).

I assume you are reviewing a bilingual file, in which case you don't need to do anything else.

If you are reviewing a monolingual file, then I suggest you create a monolingual TM. To do this, you need to trick MemoQ into importing the file as a source language pair. I do this for En-GB to En-GB jobs by setting up the job with "English" as the source language and "English (United Kingdom)" as the target language.

Hope that helps,

Stephen

Can I add a question? Jun 3, 2016

I don't want to create new subject. I am a reviewer too and my problem is that when I'm confirming segments they are confirmed only from the cursor downwards. What should I do to confirm all the segments in the open document, downwars and upwards.

That's an easy one:

1/ Edit menu: Select all segments (shortcut Ctrl+Shift+A)
2/ Translation menu: Confirm (shortcut Ctrl + Enter)
