Police in Cambridgeshire are using 50% more translation and interpreter services than they did last year. Figures show the force used 157 interpreters, about 31 a month, in the five months up to the end of May 2010 and most were on a national register.

In 2009 Cambridgeshire Police used 245 translators or about 20 per month. The increase is partly because the number of arrests increased and more foreign nationals came forward to report crime, a spokesman said.
