Billionaire owner of the New Jersey Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, is bringing his upscale Russian-language magazine to U.S. stores

Mikhail Prokhorov, the billionaire Russian metals magnate & owner of the New Jersey Nets, threw a lavish launch party in Chelsea to celebrate the arrival of his first print project as a newly-made New York media mogul. Snob, a foreign-language, general-interest magazine that caters to that Russia’s global elite, is being brought to American newsstands without translation into English. And, beyond the magazine, Snob properties include a social-networking website and an invitation-only club allowing members to attend its sponsored live events around the U.S.
Some have criticized Prokhorov for bringing the Russian-language title Stateside, where most consumers will be unable to read it. Still, in a curious sort of way, Prokhorov’s business plan actually has potential. Besides seeking to fill an international media void, interests in the project expressly include attracting a more “global audience” for the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

I don't see the point of marketing an NBA team globally. It's not a product nor a service.
Translating Snob would not make any sense either. Things like that are better localized or left alone. I really doubt their original stories would be interesting to read for anyone outside of Russia (unless there are people who specifically want to learn about how Russian tycoons live).
IMHO.

There is even an article on this in the fresh issue of Forbes magazine Nov 9, 2010

Rest assured though, it's a total non-issue over here. What can they possibly tell me that I can't read in English? As to the lives of the rich and famous, oh boy. this country could export this stuff by the truckload - and probably does. It's his money though ...
