The Board of Trustees of King Abdullah International Prize for Translation met Tuesday at King Fahd Public Library in Riyadh to select the winning works, in preparation to announce them at an upcoming function. Members reviewed reports compiled by the Prize’s General Secretariat and comments the Scientific Committee made about the nominated works.
In four sessions, officials reviewed 462 works covering natural sciences from other languages into Arabic, natural sciences from Arabic into other languages, humanities from other languages into Arabic and vice versa.
Dr. Saeed Bin Fayez Al-Saeed, the Prize’s secretary general, said members discussed the role of the prize in reactivating the movement in translation from Arabic to other languages and vice versa, in all areas of science and literature. He said linkage of the award to King Abdullah encourages reputable international institutions to nominate their best works.

He said 263 works have been entered in the field of the translation of the humanities from other languages into Arabic, compared to 100 works from Arabic into other languages.
The objective of the program, which was launched five years ago, is to extend the bridges of cultural interaction to all nations, Dr. Al-Saeed said.
