The Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize has already received lots of entries from budding translators. The deadline for entries is 29st July 2011.

The annual Young Translators’ Prize will be presented to a translator at the start of their career and will focus on a different language each year. In 2011 the chosen language is Arabic and entrants will be asked to translate the short story ‘Layl Qouti’ by Egyptian writer Mansoura Ez Eldin.

The short story and details on how to enter can be found at www.youngtranslatorsprize.com. The prize is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 34, with no restriction on country of residence.

This year’s prize will be judged by author Penelope Lively, translator Anthony Calderbank, journalist Maya Jaggi and Harvill Secker editor and founder of the prize Briony Everroad.

The winner’s name will be announced at Foyles, Charing Cross Road, during a special event on 28th September 2011. The winning translator will receive £1000, a selection of Harvill Secker titles and Foyles tokens.
