Elizabeth Martinez has studied and worked in business and government for the last several years. For the last 8 years, she has been serving as a credentialed interpreter throughout the Niagara region for federal agencies such as the Canada Border Service Agency, the Immigration and Refugee Board, as well as for private companies. Elizabeth was Interpreter Liaison for Interpreters Niagara-Hamilton for 7 years. In this role, she assisted government agencies in accessing language interpretation services for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. Elizabeth provides training for organizations on how to work effectively with language interpreters, through workshops and newsletters. Elizabeth also provides workshops on Cultural Sensitivity and Anti-Oppression training. Elizabeth has taught the Intensive Language Interpreter Training Program in-class at Mohawk College and currently teaches online Introduction to Language Interpretation and Capstone courses. Elizabeth is a member of the Professional Development Committee for the Ontario Council of Community Interpreting. Elizabeth’s academic background includes English/Spanish undergraduate studies from McMaster University, she holds a Paralegal Diploma from Trios College, she is a graduate of the Language Interpreter Training Program from Mohawk College and a Masters in Conference Interpretation from York University.
