I am a native speaker of British English with an excellent knowledge of French and a flair for words. I have been working as a freelance translator since May 2005 and have experience in the following areas:

Legal: contracts, correspondence, deeds of sale, documents relating to the inheritance of an estate, reports, writs of summons

Insurance: general terms and conditions

International development: reports

Tourism: leaflets, text for website

General: correspondence, text for website,

I graduated from St Hugh’s College, Oxford University with a BA Honours Degree in Modern Languages (French), (now MA). I gained a Distinction in French in my first year at Oxford and won a travel bursary for outstanding translation work in a university examination in Year 2. As part of my degree I spent a year as an English Language Assistant teaching in 2 French secondary schools.

I passed the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation in 2004, achieving a merit in Paper 1 and a Distinction in Paper 2.

I am an Associate of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. I am also a member of the ITI's French Network, the Media, Arts and Tourism Network, and the Law, Insurance and Finance Network, and the regional group Yorkshire Translators and Interpreters.

Professionally trained and experienced in information retrieval, I am a Chartered Librarian .
