Spanish to English: Excerpt from the translation of "Montaña, edificación y libro" by Montserrat Albores Gleason
Translation - English The exhibition matches documents from the artist’s trip to Switzerland with fragments of the narration of this final episode. On the gallery walls are painted high-contrast murals which reproduce, fictitiously, the landscape of the Himalaya. This is a reference to the alleged two year trip to Tibet that Holmes made during his absence. Here the mountain appears as an ideal. The image has been constructed from fragments of various mountains from around the world and reproduces the way that memory reconstructs that which it remembers, drawing a parallel with the way memory reconstructs what has been read, reiterating the enormous distance between the real voyage and its memory; between the fictional trip and its memory. Books about the disciplines mastered by Holmes are ‘collected’ in a small library. The mountain range mimics the chain of books. Both the library and the mountain range include the literary voyage as well as the real one; they also include their oblivion or their reconstruction through memory. To re-read is to have forgotten and to match the reading with the memory of what was read.

My name is Alejandro Ramirez Lovering. I am a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. I am also a native English speaker, since my mother is from Boston, USA, and I attended grammar school at an American school in Guadalajara. I was always encouraged to read and write in English by both my mother and father.
I went to college in the US at the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving an undergraduate degree in Painting there in 1993. Although my main activities revolved around art making, I also attended a few reading and writing workshops there. When I graduated I started to work as a freelance translator, specializing mostly in texts on art and philosophy. Later I also translated many texts related to civil engineering, especially on water treatment projects for cities in Mexico.
I also received formal training as a systems engineer. From 1998 to 2003 I earned another undergraduate degree, in Systems Engineering, at ITESO University here in Guadalajara. I worked as a freelance systems engineer in software development since I graduated from ITESO, mostly developing web applications for companies and government agencies. I also continued to do translation work during this period. In 2007 I started to work for IBM in Guadalajara. I worked there for a year and a half, and my work as an engineer was complemented by teaching English to IBM employees. I also did a bit of proofreading of English texts written by managers on different levels at the company.
At present I am active as an artist, working as a painter and ceramicist. I am also working as a freelance translator, mainly art theory and criticism texts in Spanish to English. And I want to start my own beer brewing business. Microbreweries are a relatively new thing here in Mexico, and I think there's potential for business. Also, it's quite fun!
