Bio
My name is Alejandro Ramirez Lovering. I am a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. I am also a native English speaker, since my mother is from Boston, USA, and I attended grammar school at an American school in Guadalajara.

I was always encouraged to read and write in English by both my mother and father.

I went to college in the US at the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving an undergraduate degree in Painting there in 1993. Although my main activities revolved around art making, I also attended a few reading and writing workshops there.

After graduation I started to work as a freelance translator, specializing mostly in texts on art and philosophy. Later I also translated many texts related to civil engineering, especially on water treatment projects for cities in Mexico.

From 1998 to 2003 I earned another undergraduate degree, in Systems Engineering, at ITESO University here in Guadalajara. I worked as a freelance systems engineer in software development since I graduated from ITESO, mostly developing web applications for companies and government agencies. I also continued to do translation work during this period. In 2007 I started to work for IBM in Guadalajara. I worked there for a year and a half, and my work as an engineer was complemented by teaching English to IBM employees. I also did a bit of proofreading of English texts written by managers on different levels at the company.

At present I am active as an artist, working as a painter and ceramicist. I am also working as a freelance translator, mainly art theory and criticism texts in Spanish to English.
