I am a NAATI-accredited freelance Japanese to English translator based in Nagano, Japan. Having lived and worked in Japan for over 6 years, I have an intimate knowledge of the language, culture, people and country.
Wanting to take my language skills to another level, I enrolled in a translating and interpreting program at Macquarie University here in Sydney and graduated with a postgraduate diploma in 2012. During my studies I trained under some of the most accomplished J<>E translators and interpreters in the country, gaining a wide range of experience in various fields and text types and learning techniques for researching, cross-checking and polishing translations. I have also been trained in best practice subtitling methods by a veteran subtitler at SBS (the Australian Special Broadcasting Service TV network), which is recognised globally for its excellence in subtitling foreign movies and programs.
The bulk of my translation is in the fields of the environment, education, life sciences and personal documents although recent projects also include a photojournalistic e-book, surveys, nuclear energy reports and an OH&S powerpoint presentation.
I enjoy the ever-changing nature of translation and the fact that no two assignments are the same. A perfectionist with an eye for detail and an innate curiosity. I respect deadlines and am constantly reflecting on my work and striving to improve.
