Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, I am a native speaker of English and possess qualities indispensable to be a successful translator: a love of languages. the desire to continue learning, and a positive attitude toward new challenges. I have always sought out situations that would test my knowledge of a foreign language and require me to acquire new vocabulary and syntax in order to communicate effectively.

After graduating from Ohio State University with a major in Russian language and literature, I headed for New York City with the intention of living with a Russian family. I found one and lived and breathed Russian for three years. At the same time, I was earning an M.A. in Russian linguistics at New York University, where the lectures and examinations, including the final five-hour one, were completely in Russian. My Russian immersion continued when I lived in the U.S.S.R on two occasions: first, as a student at Leningrad State University and, second, when I accompanied my husband, who had received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach advanced mathematics in Tbilisi.

I also have a second M.A. degree in Teaching ESL. The first class that I taught consisted of Venezuelans. It was then that I became interested in learning Spanish. I took university courses, including a summer session at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. Equipped with skill in teaching English and able to communicate in Spanish, I was hired by the University of Texas-Brownsville as the director of its writing skills lab. Eventually, I became a faculty member and taught English composition and ESL. I also earned Texas Teacher Certification in bilingual education (Spanish/English) and taught elementary school subjects (science, math, social studies) in Spanish and English. Being there along the U.S./Mexico border, I was surrounded by Spanish speakers. I took advantage of this language-rich situation by practicing Spanish every day and crossing over the bridge to Matamoros, Mexico, whenever I wanted.

I began my present career by translating articles from Russian into English for professors of entomology, mathematics, and biochemistry at Oklahoma State University. After doing translating and interpreting off and on for several years, I decided to take the leap and make freelancing my full-time occupation. I concentrate on doing medical and legal translations from Russian or Spanish into English. I am very conscientious and hold myself to a high standard. I honor the trust that clients put in me by delivering top-notch translations.
