Modern German translation/interpreting (preferably German to English): Having lived in Germany for a total of 7 years since 1990, involved in translation (as well as speaking, tutoring, and teaching) at various times ever since, and married to a native German since 1998, my German skills are at a near native level (in fact, with regard to spelling and grammar, they're not at all inferior to native ability). I have had the opportunity to successfully translate a great variety of texts. I especially enjoy translation jobs where there is a challenge to come up with a quality translation that sounds like an original text, yet is faithful to the text it has been translated from. I consider myself to be a a creative translator and a wordsmith. While I have in fact done some translation from English to German - and my wife is able to help as a proofreader - my preference is from German into my native English.

Old German translation: One of the fields I most enjoy in German-English translating is that of old German documents (such as from the 1800s), especially those that involve hard-to-decipher handwriting. Naturally, this involves higher per word rates than modern translation, but I've discovered that there aren't too many translators willing and able to translate such documents.

Spanish translation/interpreting: I have lived in Mexico for a total of 8+ years since 2002 - and I'm in the country for 5 months of the year. Also, I worked as a consecutive interpreter (mainly medical) from 2009-2014. As a result, my Spanish skills are at a highly advanced level. I have focused on German translation rather than Spanish, but since translation principles carry over to a large extent, I have been successful in producing good work translating Spanish to English.
