Source text - Spanish Los ensayos que emplean ondas ultrasónicas resultan los de mayor campo de aplicación entre los denominados No Destructivos (END), permiten detectar fallas macroscópicas en materiales que posean conductividad acústica ya sea en metales, hormigones, cerámicos o plásticos.
La técnica de ultrasonido es de frecuente aplicación en controles dimensional y de defectos macroscópicos (discontinuidades), en materiales que presentan conductividad acústica (metales, cerámicos, plásticos, etc.).
En este caso, el campo de energía en forma de ondas acústicas no audibles, interacciona con el material (medio elástico). En general los materiales presentan gran poder de absorción, por lo que no son sensibles a la propagación ultrasónica. Las leyes de la física que gobiernan el fenómeno de propagación de este tipo de energía, se estudia en la teoría de ondas elásticas de la mecánica.
Entre los principales usos que se da al Ultrasonido (US):
– Detección de defectos internos en componentes de equipos industriales
– Control de calidad (presencia de macroestructura)
– Medición de desgaste en recipientes (medición de espesores)
– Determinación de la velocidad del sonido en diferentes materiales
Translation - English Those testing which use ultrasonic waves result to be of the mayor applications field among the so called Non Destructive (NDT), they allow detecting macroscopic flaws in materials that either possess acoustic conductivity in metals, concretes, ceramic or plastics.
The ultrasonic technique is of frequent application in dimensional controls and macroscopic flaws (discontinuities), in materials that present acoustic conductivity (metals, ceramic, plastics, etc.).
In this case, the energy field in form of non audible acoustic waves, interact with the material (elastic medium). In general the materials present great absorption power, for what they are not sensitive to the ultrasonic propagation. The physics laws that govern the phenomenon of propagation of this type of energy, are studied in the theory of elastic waves of the mechanics.
Among the main uses that it is given to the Ultrasound (US):
- Detection of internal defects in components of industrial devices
- Quality control (macrostructure presence)
- Wall thickness loss in vessels (thickness measurement)
- Determination of the sound velocity in different materials

Source text - English Arc welding under protective gas and non consumable electrode (GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING, GTAW-TIG)
The procedure of arc welding under protection gas and non consumable electrode, also called TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), employs as energy source the electric arc established between a non consumable electrode and the work piece, while an inert gas protects the fusion bath. The filler metal when needed is made through filling wires of an adequate composition to the base metal. It is frequently used without filling metal on initial root passes. The essentially manual process has been automated for some productions in series, such as thin wall pipes welded longitudinally or helicoidally and for joining tube to tubesheet in heat exchangers. It can be employed in all type of joints or positions and over the most different materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, non ferrous metals, etc. The polarity most frequently used is the direct one (negative electrode). Non consumable electrodes are TUNGSTEN type with certain alloy elements. With this welding process countless alloys and metals are welded.

El procedimiento de soldadura por arco gas protector con electrodo no consumible, también llamado TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), utiliza como fuente de energía el arco eléctrico que salta entre un electrodo no consumible y la pieza a soldar, mientras un gas inerte protege el baño de fusión. La aportación cuando es necesaria se hace a través de varillas de composición adecuada al metal base. Se utiliza frecuentemente sin aportación en las pasadas iniciales de raíz. El proceso esencialmente manual, se ha automatizado para algunas fabricaciones en serie, como tuberías de pequeño espesor soldada longitudinalemente o helicoidalmente y para la fijación de tubos a placas de intercambiadores de calor. Puede emplearse en todo tipo de uniones o posiciones y en los materiales más diversos: aceros al carbono, inoxidables, metales no férreos, etc. La polaridad más frecuente es la directa (electrodo negativo). Los electrodos no consumibles son en base TUGSTENO con ciertos elementos de aleación. Con este proceso se sueldan infinidad de aleaciones y metales.
