Source text - German Viele Verkehrsunternehmen des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs vollziehen derzeit bzw. in naher Zukunft den Wechsel vom Papierticket zum elektronischen Fahrschein. Ein maßgeblicher Erfolgsfaktor beim elektronischen Ticket (eTicket) ist die Sicherheit des Gesamtsystems und das Vertrauen des Fahrgastes in diese Sicherheit. Die Sensibilität in der Öffentlichkeit zu Themen wie Vertraulichkeit der persönlichen Daten und Schutz gegen Ausspähen ist außerordentlich groß. Weiterhin ist zukünftig davon auszugehen, dass aufgrund der immer stärkeren Ausdehnung und Nutzung des eTickets der Umfang und die Komplexität der Datenflüsse rund um das eTicket stark zunehmen. Da diese Datenflüsse grundsätzlich kryptografisch abgesichert sind, wird ebenfalls das Thema des Datendurchsatzes und der Antwortzeiten eine höhere Bedeutung erlangen, d.h. die Performanz und Zuverlässigkeit der Sicherheitskomponenten muss der Last im Gesamtsystem angepasst sein.
Translation - English Many transport companies in the public sector are (or will be) implementing the change from paper tickets to electronic tickets. One significant success factor with electronic tickets (eTicket) is the security of the whole system and the customers' trust in that security. The public sensitivity to topics such as confidentiality of personal data and protection against data theft is extremely high. Furthermore, due to an increased expansion and usage of eTickets, the future amount and complexity of transferred data will strongly increase. Because these data transfers are secured cryptographically as a matter of principle, topics such as throughput and response times will acquire a more significant meaning, i.e. performance and reliability of the security components have to be adapted to the load of the whole system.

Source text - German Die marktgängigen eTicket-Systeme in Europa (VDV-KA, Calypso, ITSO) stützen sich auf ISO 14443 kontaktlosen Chipkarten ab. Passend zu diesen Chipkarten bietet die Halbleiterindustrie sogenannte SAM-Module an, welche sich kontaktgebunden in ein entsprechendes ÖPNV-Kartenterminal einsetzen lassen. Diese SAM’s (Secure Access Module) sind Crypto-Devices im Format einer Mobilfunk SIM-Karte, die in nicht ausspähbarer Form Schlüssel speichern als auch kryptografische Operationen durchführen. Mit diesen SAM lassen sich die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen gut erfüllen, solange es sich im Endgerätebereich (Fahrkartenterminals, Kontrollgeräte, usw.) um eine geringe Transaktionslast bzw. Einzeltransaktionen handelt. Zu diesen SAM‘s gehören natürlich Unterstützungsprozesse wie die Erstellung einer angepassten SAM Software an die Besonderheiten des jeweiligen eTicket-Systems, die Personalisierung auf den jeweiligen Betreiber und das Schlüsselmanagement.

Source text - German Die Sonne strahlte ungehindert auf unsere Köpfe und wir konnten unsere Haut nur mit Leinen und geflochtenen Strohhüten schützen. Mit einer stumpfen Sichel schnitt ich durch das Weizen, welches ich zu einem Bündel zusammen umfasste.
Ich sah meine Sichel an und vor meinen Augen verwandelte sie sich in ein Langschwert. Wirbelnd durchquerte ich das kleine Feld und schnitt das Weizen viel schneller durch als ich es jemals mit meiner stumpfen Sichel hinbekommen hätte.
"Hör auf zu Träumen.", meinte mein Vater und ich hielt mitten in der Bewegung inne.
Wieder sah ich auf mein 'Langschwert', was doch in Wirklichkeit nur eine Sichel war. Ich seufzte, nahm den nächsten Büschel Weizen, durchschnitt ihn und legte ihn auf den Boden.
Translation - English The sun beat down on our heads and we only had linen clothing and woven straw hats for protection. With a blunt sickle I cut the wheat, which I bundled together.
I looked at my sickle and before my eyes, it transformed into a long sword. I whirled across the small field, cutting the wheat much faster than I could ever have managed with my blunt sickle.
"Stop daydreaming", said my father and I stop in mid motion.
I looked again at my 'long sword' which was, in reality, only a sickle. I sighed, took the next bundle of wheat, cut it and laid it on the ground.
