Source text - English Gertrude’s case was so serious that it was deemed advisable to call to her surgeon who was at hand. She was taken out of the jail into the town; but she never reached home alive. Her delicate vitality, sapped perhaps by the paralyzed arm, collapsed under the double shock that followed the severe strain, physical and mental, to which she had subjected herself during the previous twenty-four hours. Her death took place in the town three days after.
Her husband was never seen in Casterbridge again; once only in the old market-place at Anglebury, which he had so much frequented, and very seldom in public anywhere. Burdened at first with moodiness and remorse, he eventually changed for the better, and appeared as a chastened and thoughtful man. Soon after attending the funeral of his poor young wife he took steps towards giving up the farms in Holmstoke and the adjoining parish, and, having sold every head of his stock, he went away to Port-Bredy, at the other end of the country, living there in solitary lodgings till his death two years later of a painless decline. It was then found that he had bequeathed the whole of his not inconsiderable property to a reformatory for boys, subject to the payment of a small annuity to Rhoda Brook, if she could be found to claim it.
For some time she could not be found; but eventually she reappeared in her old parish – absolutely refusing, however, to have anything to do with the provision made for her. Her monotonous milking at the dairy was resumed, and followed for many long years, till her form became bent, and her once abundant dark hair white and worn away at the forehead – perhaps by long pressure against the cows. Here, sometimes, those who knew her experiences would stand and observe her, and wonder what somber thoughts were beating inside that impassive, wrinkled brow, to the rhythm of the alternating milk-stream.
Translation - Arabic كانت حالة غيرترود الصحية سيئةً جدا،ً الأمر الذي استدعى إحضار الطبيب المتوفر حينها، وتمّ
إخراجها من السجن إلى البلدة، لكنها لم تصل منزلها على قيد الحياة. قدرتها الهشة على العيش، التي
أسُتنزفت بسبب ذراعها المشلولة، انهارات بشكل كامل أثر الصدمة المضاعفة التي أعقبت ما تعرضت
له من إجهاد شديد على الصعيدين الجسدي والنفسي في الأربع والعشرين ساعةٍ الأخيرة. وفي البلدة بعد
ثلاثة أيام غادرت غيرترود الحياة.
لم يُرَ زوجها في كاستيربريدج مرة أخرى؛ ظهر مرة واحدة في السوق القديم الذي اعتاد زيارته
سابقا في أنجيلبيري ، ونادرا ما ظهر للعلن في أي مكان آخر. في البداية أرهقه تأنيب الضمير والكآبة،
ولاحقا تحسّن حاله وظهر رجلا خلوق رصين. بعد فترة قصيرة من جنازة زوجته الشابة المسكينة تخلىّ
عن مزارعه في هولمستوك والمنطقة المجاورة، و باع كل ما يملك، وذهب بعيدا إلى منطقة بورت
برادي في الجانب الآخر من البلاد، حيث عاش في مسكن معزول، وذَوى هناك بلا ألم حتى وافته المنية
بعد سنتين. أكُتشف لاحقا أنه وَهب ثروته الكبيرة لأحد إصلاحيات الأولاد على أن يُدفع مُرتّب شهري
بسيط ل رودا بروك إن ظهرت يوما ما وطالبت به.
توارت رودا عن الأنظار بعض الوقت، ثم ظهرت ثانية حيث عاشت سابقا،ً رافضة كليّا الأعُطيه التي
تُركت لها. عادت إلى عملها الرتيب في الملبنة، واستمر ذلك لسنوات عديدة حتى بلغ الإنحناء من هيئتها
مبلغا،ً وغزا البياض شعرها الذي كان داكنا وغزيرا يوما،ً وأصابه التلف أعلى جبهتها من احتكاكه
الطويل بأجساد الأبقار. أولئك الذين عرفوا قصة رودا يقفون أحيانا،ً وينظرون إليها متسائلين عن ماهيّة
الأفكار السوداء الكئيبة التي تتصارع خلف الجبهة الجامدة الجعدة لهذه المرأة على وقع الإيقاع المتناوب
لانسياب الحليب.

ما فتئت التقارير البريطانية الخاصة بالتعليم، توصي – منذ بعض الزمن – باستعمال أوسع نطاقا للجرائد،
بمثابة وسيلة تعليمية منوَعة من المواضيع. بيد أنه لم ينجز، عمليَا،ً سوى القليل حول ذلك. والسبب في ذلك، بناء
على (قول) المعلمين، هو أن الجرائد ليست مصممة للأولاد كما ينبغي، على الرغم من أنها تحوي الكثير من
المعلومات المفيدة. وليس الأمر مجرّد أن اللغة المستعملة هي ذات مستوىً عالٍ على الأولاد كي يفهموها، بل
أيضا حقيقة أن الجرائد تعالج مواضيع على أساس ما يحدث يوميا – فالموضوع يكون خبرا اليوم، ويزول من
الجريدة في اليوم التالي. وتميل المقالات والتقارير، مهما كانت ممتعة ومكتوبة جيدا،ً إلى الافتقار إلى الخلفية
والاستمرارية اللتين يُحتاج إليهما إذا كان سيقدر المعلمون على استعمالها كمادة تعليمية. وقبل سنتين شرعت
جريدة محلية في انكلترا في التغلب على هذه العقبات التي حالت دون استعمال الجرائد في أعمال حجرات
الدراسة . فقد بدأت بالتعاون مع مدرسين محليين، بإصدار ملحق أسبوعي مصمم خصوصا للأولاد.
فما هو شكل جريدة الأولاد هذه؟ إنها من القطع النصفي بأربع صفحات، وتبدو، للوهلة الأولى، كجريدة
للكبار. ومع ذلك هناك فرق عظيم. فمادة المواضيع تُختار باهتمام وتُصاغ كلماتها بطريقة يستطيع أيّ ولد أن
يفهمها. والمواضيع السارية في الأخبار يُركّز الانتباه عليها وتُوضّح بالتفصيل. فمثلا ركّز أحد الأعداد على
اكتشاف الغاز الطبيعي تحت بحر الشمال. وعرض عدد آخر لقضية خطيرة عن التخريب المتعمّد في القطارات،
والأخطار الناجمة عن مثل هذا السلوك، جرى وصفها بوضوح لمنفعة الأولاد. وأعمال الحكومة، وتخطيط
المدن، والمسائل الاقتصادية، والرياضة، والأحداث الثقافية تجد كلها طريقها إلى الجريدة، بشكل يجعلها مثالية
لأغراض التعليم في حجرة الدراسة. ويشعر المعلمون بأن هذه الجريدة الخاصة بالأولاد تمتاز على الكتب
المدرسية من حيث أنها أكثر منها صلة بمجريات الأحداث، وكثيرا ما تكون أكثر منها قدرة على إثارة اهتمام
الصف (المدرسي).
Translation - English Newspapers in the Classroom
British reports on education keep recommending - since some time - the use of newspapers on a larger scale as a teaching material that is rich of various topics. Yet practically speaking, a little have been accomplished on this regard. Teachers refer this shortage to the fact that newspapers are not designed properly for children although they contain plenty of useful information. It’s not only that the language of newspapers may seem difficult for children, but also the fact that newspapers tackle their topics on a daily basis where the news story of today will be out of the newspaper the next day. Articles and reports, no matter how interesting and well-written, usually lack the background and continuity needed for teachers to use them as teaching materials. Two years ago, a local newspaper in Northern England started overcoming these obstacles by issuing a weekly appendix designed for kids in cooperation with local teachers.
What is the form of this kids’ newspaper? It’s a mid-sized four pages newspaper looks at first sight as an ordinary one. The great difference is hidden inside where the topics are selected carefully and written to be understood by any kid. The news stories are tackled with much focus and details. For instance, one of the newspaper’s issues has focused on the discovery of gas under the Northern Sea, while another has discussed the serious matter of intentional sabotage of trains and the risks of such behavior. These matters were discussed clearly for the benefits of kids. Other matters such as government works, urban planning, economic issues, sport and cultural events have found its way also to the newspaper in a way suitable for teaching purposes in the classroom. Teachers feel that this kids’ newspaper has a privilege over school books in dealing with current events and in arousing interest in the classroom.
