Years of translation experience: 7. Registered at ProZ.com: Apr 2015.
Since graduating with my Bachelor’s in genetics and plant biology from UC Berkeley, I have been freelancing as a translator and a proofreader for papers. This continued during graduate school in the University of Arizona before I started treating it as a major source of my income after moving to Taiwan.
In 2011, I formally signed up with translation firms where I mastered the use of CATs such as TRADOS and Memsource that some of the firms (notably PTSGI) demanded. In 2013, however, I started working as the member of the quality management system task force in ASE, the largest semiconductor packaging and testing contractor in the world. This 18-month experience proved to be instrumental by allowing me to gain an extensive understanding of the structure, lexicon, and linguistic requirements of the manufacturing sector, and greatly expanded my project scope with translation firms as well as direct clients.
In 2015, I formally moved to Taipei as a localization specialist for biotechnology, medicine, clinical trials, manufacturing, and entertainment projects in PTSGI (the largest translation firm in Taiwan). The 1-year on-site contract involved no less than 2 million source words and provided me with a thorough insider’s perspective on translation processes. The most important experience was gaining the expertise to work effectively as an off-site service contractor. I look forward to expand my horizons and opportunities in handling translation projects where both speed, quality, and customer satisfaction are top priorities.
