I'm a freelance writer, digital marketing consultant and translator (French to English) based between London and south-west France. As a UK national, I was fortunate to become bi-lingual at the age of 14 when we relocated as a family to Poitou Charentes (department 17), where we still live and adore today.
Being thrown into a French school in my early teens made second language acquisition almost effortless and has built the basis of my passion for linguistics. Notably, I achieved a Pass of the DELF B1 exam for non-native French speakers and followed that up with sitting French and English Literature A Levels in the UK.
From there I went to Kingston University (London) to study Journalism With French BA Honours. The two disciplines compliment one another well. The written skills acquired though Journalism have improved my French through a heightened awareness of accuracy, and a knowledge of the core sentence structure of the target translation language.
I enjoy translation immensely and achieved first class grades consistently throughout my academic career for this particular skill (1st year: 73/100, 2nd year: 78/100, 3rd year: 72/100). I'm a grammar snob with an eye for detail, and have a broad knowledge of idioms, business jargon and conjugation rules.
I have experience working for an English magazine whose content covers business and culture in the Benelux countries and France. I have now been working as a translator for six months, working on projects in the media, marketing and literature fields, as well as general documents.
