Crohn's disease is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, but predominantly affects the lower small intestine (the ileum) and the large intestine (the colon). It is a disease that can be characterized by genetic defects, which exacerbate a response in the immune system. In clinical practice today, drug interactions are an important topic of pharmacology among health professionals. Drug interactions are special types of pharmacological responses in which the effects of one or more drugs are altered by simultaneous or prior administration of the other, or by concurrent administration with food, alcohol, etc. Drug interactions may have beneficial or harmful effects on the health of the patient. When the effects are beneficial, generally they are desired by the physician or health care professional to assist in drug treatment. However, when harmful, they can put the patient's health at risk.
