Converged Infrastructure is a topic that is currently being brought into multiple customer conversations.
You will hear Converged Infrastructure referred to as CI through this training module, and throughout the industry.
To allow you to understand how to speak to this topic, you first need to understand what CI is, why customers are so intrigued by CI platforms and what EMC’s CI platforms are.
Before we jump in, lets review the EMC definition of CI.
Converged Infrastructure is the Delivery and Consumption of compute, storage and connectivity as a Complete System.
There are a few key aspects to the definition.
The first thing that needs to be understood is that CI is about a completely integrated infrastructure stack.
This means the CI appliance needs to be delivered with CPU, Memory, Storage and Connectivity preassembled and pre-integrated at the factory.
The reason this is important is because the customer wants the CI platform to simplify how they purchase and implement these infrastructure components.
The other concept that also is very important is that the customer wants to consume the CI appliance in as simple a form as possible.
They prefer to not have to deal with configuring and managing the CI platform at the component level.
The customer wants to consume the CI platform as a single entity, where they do not need to focus on storage, CPU and memory as separate resources.
