I am a freelance translator currently living between France and Ireland, specialising in legal translation from French to English.
I graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2015 with a first-class honours degree in Law and French. While a student at Trinity College, I was selected to study at l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po Paris), where I took classes in international relations and international law. All work done at Sciences Po Paris was through French.
I have a number of experiences working in both law firms and the investment banking industry. In 2014, I undertook a vacation scheme with the Matheson law firm in Dublin, working as an intern in their Structured Finance and Taxation division. Matheson is one of Ireland's largest law firms, with a number of international offices, and it acts as advisor to several of the large multi-national corporations headquartered in Dublin.
Following the completion of my degree, I was an investment banking analyst at Rubicon Infrastructure Advisors, a boutique investment advisory firm focusing on international infrastructure deals. My speciality as an analyst was the drafting of legal documents and the analysis of contractual issues.
These experiences have allowed me to develop a strong legal background, especially in the areas of financial law and European Union law.
I have recently become interested in legal translation as a career and have undertaken translation work for Irish barristers on cases before the European Court of Justice. I translated party submissions – plaintiff, defendant and country submissions. I also provided extensive summaries of the arguments put forward by the parties for the client, in order to reduce their end workload. This is a service I can provide due to the extensive legal education I received during my studies.
I am currently working freelance and have been chosen as Ireland's "pensionnaire étranger" to the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris for the 2016/2017 academic year, where I will study law, linguistics and commerce.
