Source text - English Often as beginning readers, children are so aware of reading accurately that they forget to take time and think about what they are reading, checking to see whether they understand the text. Advanced readers can develop the habit of reading through text without monitoring whether they were unaware of the Check for Understanding strategy as beginning readers.

As Associate Director of Learning Programs at Colegio Nueva Granada, Liliana provides PD, facilitates the school’s academic improvement process and the implementation of AdvancED’s standards for quality schools.. Prior to this, she was the Schools of Excellence Coordinator and also worked in the Learning Center as a reading specialist providing intervention to struggling readers. She was responsible for the Learning Center's quality system implementation under the ISO 9001:2008 norm.
Liliana is also an educational consultant. As the Academic Director of Advenio, a daycare and preschool, she designed the curriculum and provided teacher training. Liliana is the Spanish Language Consultant for Building Blocks for Literacy ®, an early literacy online program. She translated this program to Spanish and works avidly in partnership with the Stern Center to promote literacy in Latin America. Liliana has offered professional training at many schools in Colombia and has also worked as an educational consultant for the Parthenon Group.
She wrote a book titled “Enseñando a Leer: Teoría, práctica e intervención” (Norma 2008). She is a member of the International Literacy Association and the International Dyslexia Association. Liliana has presented at several conferences worldwide. She is a proud certified early literacy teacher by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She also provides private tutoring for students with dyslexia, poor reading comprehension, study skills, and screens young children for school readiness and prevention of reading failure.
Liliana earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from U. de Los Andes, a Diploma on Child Psychopathology from U. Autónoma de Barcelona, a M.A. degree in Elementary Education from the U. of Alabama, and a Diploma on Teacher Leadership from Lehigh University. Committed to excellence and always for the children, she is a lifelong learner who is continuously pursuing on-going education.Always for the children!
