Bio

Hello,

Since I was
8 I always said I want to be a translator and study German, English, Latin and
Russian. Except for Latin I never learnt, I followed the way I choose as a
child. I just regret not being able to translate Russian.

Freelance
translator since September 1989, I have a long experience. During many years I
specialized translating books but now I wish to come back to the general
translation. I heard of ProZ many years ago so I decided to subscribe to this
website in order to have access to many job offers -of course- but also to be
able to help less experienced translators.

When I
started as a freelance translator, I just came back from Germany where I
studied during 3 years. I belong to the first ERASMUS students! In September
1986 I start to study at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) with 5 other
exchange-students of Lyon II University. After 2 semesters in Bielefeld I
decided to continue my studies in Germany -while still taking my exams in
France too. Therefore I pass the exam to enter at the Translation Institute of
the University of Saarbrucken with “French as Mother tongue” and carry on my
studies there during 2 years.

During my
holidays I worked and travelled in English and German speaking countries. I
worked during 4 months in the United States and many times in Germany, visited
Ireland, Great-Britain and the Netherlands.

In 1989,
when I started as a freelance translator, I also had a job as an
export-assistant in a French printing works. I worked there since I had my
first child in 1993. As an export-assistant I travelled a lot in English and
German speaking countries and attended many book fairs (Paris, Frankfurt,
Bologna…).

At the
beginning I translated technical and administrative documents for French but
also German companies. And for my main client I translated American, English
and German newspapers when they wrote an article about its branch of activity.

From 1996
to 2013 I was a sworn translator for the Bourges Court of Appeal. Therefore I
translated many documents for the French courts but also for companies,
lawyers, solicitors, notaries, chartered accountants, the police… I stopped
this activity in 2013 because I had too much work to do with the book
translations.

I translate
books for many years now. I do not translate novels but I translate many very
interesting books such as "How Homo became Sapiens: On the evolution of thinking" to "Make Your Own Medieval Clothing: Shoes of High and Late Middle Ages" to "At Home in Greece" (it was very pleasant to translate this book in January...), the Great Painters of the Renaissance, Roman Art, Gothic Art...

I belong to the ATLF (French association for book translators) and the SFT (French Translators Society).

I hate to be late! And I rest only once the job is done! Therefore, when the deadlines are reasonable most of the time I deliver the translation ahead of schedule! My mottoes are: "Ce qui est fait n'est plus à faire" (Once the work is done you do not have to do it anymore) and "Ne jamais remettre au lendemain ce qu'on peut faire le jour même" (Never put off until tomorrow things you can do today).

Thank you
very much for reading this long introduction.

I hope we will work together very soon.
