Bio

Ever since I was little, I was fascinated, but also frustrated, by those little captions at the bottom of the television screen. Fascinated, because they meant that I could reconstruct the meaning of what the characters were saying on screen. Frustrated, because they were going too fast and I couldn't read them. That was the moment that my interest in subtitles began.

So many years later, I enrolled at university to begin my translators' training, and perhaps, who knows, become a subtitler my self one day. There, I rediscovered my love of languages from my days at high school, I discovered Brussels, and perhaps even more important, I discovered myself.

In the end, I finished my Bachelor's training in Applied Linguistics, written my thesis on surtitling in the opera, which gave me a new field of interest I wasn't even aware of before. Apart from that, I also discovered the interesting worlds of literature, children's literature and subtitling.

Afterwards, I also followed a Masters' Degree in Translation "cum laude", in which I was able to really apply myself to translation and subtitling. I've written my Master's dissertation on swear words and their translation in subtitling, subtitled a linguisitic lecture on the topic of swearing, and gained experience in a real-life translation agency.

Since then, I have been volunteering as a subtitler for TED, attended TEDxBrussels in 2017, and published some subtitles of my own. Now, I have begun my own one-man business as a freelance translator, and I am looking towards the future with lots of hope.
