Source text - English Embryonic stem (ES) cells, derived from the inner cell mass (ICM) of a blastocyst, can differentiate into almost all kinds of cells of the body under certain circumstances. These so-called pluripotent cells have great potential in cell therapy treating many intractable human diseases. However, its derivation is by no means an easy task. Isolation of ICM is one of the crucial steps of the procedure. Most currently-existed ES cells were derived from the ICM isolated from a blastocyst by immunosurgery. This technique is not only time-consuming, but also has a danger contaminating ES cells with animal materials, which may cause unpredicted diseases if transplanted into human being in cell therapy.
Translation - Spanish Las células madre embrionarias (CME), derivadas del embrioblasto de un blastocisto, pueden diferenciarse en casi todo tipo de células del organismo bajo determinadas circunstancias. Estas células, llamadas células pluripotentes, poseen un gran potencial en la terapia celular para tratar muchas enfermedades humanas incurables. Sin embargo, su derivación no es tarea fácil; el aislamiento del embrioblasto es uno de los pasos cruciales del procedimiento. La mayoría de las CME existentes actualmente fueron derivadas del embrioblasto aislado del blastocisto mediante inmunocirugía. Esta técnica no solo consume mucho tiempo, sino que también presenta el riesgo de contaminar las CME con material animal, lo que podría causar enfermedades imprevistas si estas CME fuesen trasplantadas en humanos mediante terapia celular.
