Professional practices Valeryia Khotsina endorses's Professional Guidelines.

I graduated from Minsk State Linguistic University as a teacher of foreign languages, primarily English. I also speak Polish and German (the latter is rather rusty). Building up the vocabulary in these languages and using them in my professional activity is my next step.

I've always wanted to be a translator though, and in 2014 I joined a publishing co-op as a translator from English into Russian and editor of translations done by other people. I mostly translate books on political and social topics; one of the most exciting projects was the translation of Emma Goldman's memoirs.

I also have experience in translating videos and movies, localising websites and interpretation (both consecutive and simultaneous).

I'm interested in cooperating with people and organisations that help make this world a better place and whose activities are useful for society. That's why I have extensive experience in working with NGOs and grassroots organisations. I specialise in political, ecological and rights advocacy translation, and sometimes I also write analytical articles myself.

My activism has closely connected me with antirepressive work and I participated in the translation of two books by Belarusian political prisoners into English.
