In the late 1980's, an Australian researcher by the name of David John Oates made one of the most monumental discoveries of the twentieth century. Before we delve into what this discovery was, it is important to first understand the mindset many individuals had at the time, because it wasn't understood by the majority of the public, with regards to a phenomenon we now know as "Reverse Speech." The year was 1971; Led Zeppelins song "Stairway to Heaven" was at the top of the charts. America was still involved in the Vietnam War, which at the time had already dragged on for twelve years. During these troubled times, many fundamentalists were warning about the dangers of rock music coming from bands such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Doors. Subsequently as the sound and lyrics of rock music continued to "worsen" it eventually progressed to what was known as the “Satanic Panic” in the early 1980's.

Antes de aprofundarmo-nos nessa descoberta, é importante primeiro entender a mentalidade que muitos indivíduos possuíam à época - porque tais fenômenos não eram bem compreendidos pela maioria do público - no que diz respeito a esse fenômeno que hoje conhecemos como "Discurso reverso". O ano era 1971; A música da banda inglesa Led Zeppelin, "Stairway to Heaven", estava no topo das paradas. Os Estados Unidos ainda estavam envolvidos com a guerra no Vietnam, que naquela época já vinha se arrastando havia doze anos. Durante essa época difícil, muitos fundamentalistas estavam advertindo sobre os perigos do Rock feito por bandas como os Beatles, o Led Zeppelin e The Doors. Na sequencia, a media que as letras e o som do Rock continuavam a "deteriorar-se", chegou-se ao que na época ficou conhecido como o "Pânico Satânico" ainda no início dos anos oitenta.

procurei-te por lugares insuspeitos,
noutros que não interessam
nem ao menino Jesus,
sei que estás aí algures,
